One of our clients here at Elite asked me if I would write about what discipline means to me personally. I know everyone views it differently. When I tell someone what I eat or my everyday routine involves, they tell me “You are so disciplined!” To be honest, it would be so much harder for me to NOT do those things. I’ve established a routine years ago that just is now a habit for me. Discipline is only required when you are trying to create change. None of us are open to make change because change requires us to think. Think about when and how we will exercise, what new kinds of recipes to make, and what to buy at the grocery store.
In order to be disciplined to create new habits you have to change the way you think and be accountable (establish consequences) when you fall. Reading books and educating yourself on a daily basis is one of the best ways to keep your mind on the same track as your goals. And when you fail to adhere to your plan make sure you have a consequence for it. If there is no consequence, you will keep repeating the same mistakes due to lack of accountability. Sports teams do this all the time, in practice if they make a mistake they have to either do push ups or run laps. It definitely makes them “think” before repeating the same mistake again.
So if you want to establish discipline in your life, make sure to change your mind and be accountable. Work on this daily and those goals will become habits.
